Turmeric is the ground root from a plant of the lily family, native to SE Asia. It has a mild, aromatic flavour and is usually an ingredient in curry powders. It has a distinctive taste and yellow/orange colour so should be used in small amounts in cooking to avoid it overpowering other flavours and colours.
Eating small amounts of turmeric regularly may have a positive impact on your health. The BBC carried out a study on this and found some interesting results. We find this evidence compelling and frequently add a teaspoon of turmeric to eggs or porridge in the morning.
