Turmeric is the ground root from a plant of the lily family, native to SE Asia. It has a mild, aromatic flavour and is usually an ingredient in curry powders. It has a distinctive taste and yellow/orange colour so should be used in small amounts in cooking to avoid it overpowering other flavours and colours.

Eating small amounts of turmeric regularly may have a positive impact on your health. The BBC carried out a study on this and found some interesting results. We find this evidence compelling and frequently add a teaspoon of turmeric to eggs or porridge in the morning.

Buying organic spices ensures that they are not contaminated by any pesticides, chemicals, irradiation, fillers, GMOs, or chemical additives. You are sure to notice the difference in flavour and smell compared to supermarket spices.
